Video: Extrication Needed When Blizzard Leads to ND Pile-Up

Feb. 22, 2022
Firefighters from Casselton had to extricate multiple victims from a pile-up on Interstate 94 during blizzard conditions.

Blizzard conditions caused a chain reaction pile-up on Interstate 94 in Casselton, about 20 miles west of Fargo, involving over a dozen vehicles and requiring two complex extrications.

The initial accident Monday was between a car and a tractor-trailer that blocked both lanes of westbound I-94. With blizzard conditions, approaching vehicles could not see the crash causing the pile-up until it was too late.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol told Valley News Live that six semi-trucks and eight passenger vehicles were involved.

Six people were taken to Sanford Hospital to be treated, and one person sustain serious injuries.
